CAFÉ BON BON Brand Identity

Café Bon Bon is an Asian fusion café-restaurant located in Richmond Hill, Canada, founded by a Taiwanese-Canadian team with professional experience in food, tea, and coffee. Combining Taiwanese tea, specialty coffee, baked goods, and contemporary Asian fusion cuisine, the brand set out to create a neighbourhood destination that brings together quality dining and an approachable social atmosphere within Canada’s multicultural food scene.

Moving beyond the familiar associations of Asian dining with bubble tea shops or traditional Chinese restaurants, Café Bon Bon places Taiwanese teas—including Oriental Beauty and oolong—alongside coffee, soufflé pancakes, and contemporary Asian dishes. Through a refined yet relaxed dining experience, the brand introduces Taiwanese food and tea culture naturally into the everyday lives of Canadian customers.

Strategy

Positioned as a contemporary Asian café-restaurant, the brand uses a Western name, a minimal visual language, and a modern dining experience to reinterpret Taiwanese tea culture and Asian fusion cuisine. The identity needed to communicate Taiwanese cultural influences and culinary creativity while retaining the warmth, accessibility, and lifestyle appeal of a contemporary Western café.

Rather than relying on literal cultural symbols, Eastern influences are expressed through materials, colour, and subtle visual details. Gold, traditionally associated with prosperity, blessing, and abundance in Chinese culture, is applied in a restrained way across the identity and packaging. This preserves its cultural meaning while bringing a more refined quality to the overall brand and dining experience.

The resulting identity allows Café Bon Bon to move beyond a single cuisine or cultural audience, creating an open and accessible brand that can connect with customers across Canada’s multicultural community.

Concept

In French, bonbon means candy or confectionery. Formed from the repeated word bon, meaning “good,” the name naturally evokes pleasure, sweetness, and sharing. The logo is built around the two letterforms “B” from the brand name. Their overlapping structure creates a simple yet rhythmic mark, reflecting the meeting of different culinary cultures, flavours, and everyday experiences.

The broader visual identity follows a modern and minimal design language, balancing refinement with approachability. Extended across menus, food packaging, takeaway items, and spatial touchpoints, the system creates a consistent brand experience—transforming Café Bon Bon from an Asian fusion restaurant into a contemporary neighbourhood destination with a distinctive cultural and lifestyle identity.
